Justice Stephen Breyer was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. His mother taught him that it was important to help other people in the world. Justice Breyer joined the Boy Scouts and worked his way up to be an Eagle Scout. He also worked during the summers, as a delivery boy, digging ditches, and serving food at a camp. As a kid, Justice Breyer’s dad took him along when he went to vote. His dad would let him pull the lever on the voting machine. Justice Breyer took field trips with his class to the statehouse in Sacramento to see the state legislature in action. He came to believe that the government can help the people, and also that the government needs people to participate. Justice Breyer became a Supreme Court Justice on August 3rd, 1994.
