The executive branch of our national government is led by the President of the United States. The President is elected to a four-year term, along with a Vice-President. The President is the Commander in Chief of our country’s armed forces. The President is also responsible for carrying out and enforcing the laws of the United States.
To assist the President in his or her duties, the President appoints a number of advisors, who make up his or her cabinet. For example, one member of the President’s cabinet is the Secretary of Education. This cabinet member oversees the Department of Education, which is part of the executive branch. The many employees in the Department of Education help to carry out federal laws about schools and education.
A Governor leads each state’s executive branch.
Tribal governments are usually led by an executive official known as a President, Chief, Governor, or Chair.
